  Worry not , there is nothing rotten in Denmark but there surely seems to be something dysfunctional in Oshawa at Lacrosse Canada’s headquarters. Let’s look into it. A very discrete annual meeting Lacrosse Canada held its annual meeting on September 27 th and 28 th , a month ago. There was no preliminary information circulated on the website and there has been no report since. The annual meeting is the most important meeting in the life of an association if it is concerned with governance and proper administration. The annual meeting has four functions: Receive and adopt the annual report Receive and adopt the audited statement Appoint the nomination of external auditors Elect the Board members. That’s it .   Eric Cowieson Multi Hall of Famer!     Eric Cowieson had a storied lacrosse career. Introduced to lacrosse at the age of peewee, he played for North Burnaby. His first year of junior level lacrosse Eric played for the British Columbia team which placed third in the Canada Summer Games in 1973. The next four seasons Eric played for the Burnaby Cablevision team which included winning a Minto Cup in 1977. Recognized for being a strong defensive player, Cowieson scored 88 goals and 153 assists for 241 points during his 104 game Junior “A” career. Eric went on to play 18 seasons of Senior level lacrosse with the New Westminster Salmonbellies which included holding the role of team captain for the last 14 seasons. Amongst his accomplishments, at the end of his playing career, Eric Cowieson holds three Western Lacrosse Association record – most total games played (634) most playoff games (231). Yes, we have been at it since April 2023 and have published a post every Monday of every week. To start the week on the right foot! Our initial intent was to create a platform for the game and to allow and publish analysis or viewpoints form interested readers or contributors. Our mission statement was clear and we have tried to remain focused on it: Promote the game’s most valuable actors (players, coaches, builders) Circulate ideas and critical analyses on the challenges to the game Support emerging leaderships within the games’ associations and communities.   By Rad Joseph Most Valuable Player The MSL Most Valuable Player in 2025 is Jackson Webster who played for the Owen Sound Northstars scoring 36 goals while adding 47 assists for 83 points in 19 games.   Jackson Webster Rookie of the Year (Gene Dopp Award) The 2025 Rookie of the Year Award went to Finn Thomson from the Brampton Excelsiors. Thomson totaled 40 points with 18 goals, and 22 assists in just nine games. Finn Thom Defensive Player of the Year (Merv McKenzie Award) For the 2025 MSL season, there are two winners: Latrell Harris from the Six Nations Chiefs and Matt Gilray from the Peterborough Lakers.   Western Lacrosse Association 2025 Award Winners   Most Valuable Player Marcus Klarich scored 37 goals and added 35 assists for a total of 72 points in 17 games for the Maple Ridge Burrards. Rookie of the Year The 2025 Rookie of the Year Award went to Silas Richmond from the Burnaby Lakers. Richmond totaled 54 points this season, with 30 goals, 24 assists in only 16 games. Defensive Player of the Year Known for having a dominating and consistent presence particularly in the defensive end of the floor, Drew Belgrave played a key role in the New Westminster transition game. Outstanding Goaltender of the Year The winner of the WLA 2025 Goaltender of the Year is Christian Del Bianco of the Coquitlam Adanacs. Del Bianco finished the regular season with 592 saves, a goal against average of 10.5 and an 84.9 save percentage.
