Coquitlam Adanacs
A Dynasty in the Making?
The 2025 Canadian Junior “A” lacrosse season saw the Coquitlam Adanacs capture their 5thMinto Cup in team history. This accomplishment included winning their second consecutive Canadian championship with Minto Cup victories in 2024 and 2025. In addition, the Adanacs broke a 48-year streak with Coquitlam becoming the first British Columbia based team to win the Minto Cup in Ontario. The last time this happened was 1977 by the Burnaby Cablevision team who won three consecutive championships. In addition, winning back-to-back Minto Cup titles has not happened since 2014-2015 Six Nations Arrows.
In winning the 2025 Minto Cup, the Adanacs defeated the Orangeville Northmen two straight games in a best of three series. The first game was a 7-5 win and the Minto Cup clinching victory was by an 11-10 score.
Coquitlam Head Coach Pat Coyle (an Orangeville native) acknowledged playing in their third consecutive Minto Cup (losing in 2023 to Burlington, and defeating Orangevillein 2024) “team experience” was the difference.
Coquitlam Adanacs – 2025 Minto Cup Champions
In reviewing the Coquitlam Adanacs website, one reads “The 2026 season is around the corner and we are already reloading for a chance to claim the holy grail back-to-back-to-back”. Apparently, the Adanacs are taking up the challenge to win a third consecutive Minto Cup.
In sports, a dynasty is generally viewed as a team which dominates it league. Whether a team has achieved a dynasty can be subjective. Given a career of a junior age lacrosse player is usually no more than five seasons in duration and the Coquitlam Adanacs have won 90% of their regular season games and have an even better winning percentage in their playoff games over the past two seasons, it is reasonable to consider the Adanacs are on the cusp of being a dynasty.
